Back Cover Blurb:
Sarah James has always wanted to be part of a family. Her divorced parents are estranged and she has no siblings. But she does have friends, especially Sam, who’s always underfoot… eating her food, fixing stuff in her house, and seeking advice about his love life.
Aspiring winemaker Sam Reynoso has taken care of Sarah since the sixth grade. She’s smart, comfortable, and indulgent. They’re best friends until a wine and food pairing competition throws them together in an intimate, tension-filled setting.
As feelings neither of them expected start to emerge, each will have to decide if their relationship will evolve, or if their newfound love will be nipped in the bud by a crushing secret.
My Review:
I enjoy reading Ms. Gibson's books. Being a native Californian, I love the Napa Valley wine country, and Ms. Gibson knows her setting, and her wines. Her descriptions of people, places, and emotions are fresh and inventive, giving a clear picture in the reader's mind.
I'm not usually a fan of the friends to lovers trope, but Ms. Gibson's rendering drew me right in. The heroine, Sarah, was smart, feisty, and independent, just the way I like my female characters portrayed. Sam was handsome, smart, but a bit of a player. He and Sarah have been friends since childhood, so of course he calls on her to help him at a wine contest that could get him the dream job he's always wanted.
I loved the premise of the story. The contest was realistic, not contrived. The characters had flaws that they learned from (my favorite style of romance!), and the love scenes were beautifully described without being explicit. Really, a romance written for women of all ages.
I could see Ms. Gibson's books being made into Hallmark movies, which I dearly love to watch. Her writing is clear, her characters extremely likeable, and her plots are fresh and real. Plus, the scenery is described beautifully. I would love to live in one of her books, ha ha.
I highly recommend this book, as well as the others in her Wine Country series. You won't be disappointed.
