Lost in the Wake centers around a high tech luxury cruise ship, 'The Prism of the Deep Blue Sea,' which sets sail from the port of Southampton, England, headed to Gibraltar and then across the Atlantic Ocean.
Aboard the ship, the teenage daughter of a British television star disappears without a trace. At the same time, an AK-47 is found in a midwestern American couple's suitcase.
Christian Stephanopolous, the recently promoted cruise hotel manager is caught in the midst of this distressing scenario. Ally Collette, a runaway from the deep South is Christian's sidekick at hotel reception. She’s fallen in love with him but is reluctant to confess her feelings as she knows that Christian has been captivated by Nadia Zelnikov, an alluring Russian crewmember. But Nadia has other sinister interests, including her venomous brother, Leo, who is also working on board. And Nadia is a master of manipulation, especially when it comes to men.
Captain Stavros Manzione commands his top-level crew to keep the teenage girl's disappearance under the radar. The Chief of Security Packo Suarez and Christian are both concerned about the captain's lag in aggressively finding answers to this crisis. When a second teenage girl is victimized, all hell breaks loose on 'The Prism of the Deep Blue Sea.' Chaos and fear invade the lives of the ship's crew and passengers.
Who will sadly become the casualty of unspeakable violence? And which character will step up to outwit the kingpins of the devilish international sex slave trafficking gang?
Excerpt
“Is Leopold Zelnikov working in the laundry room right now? Is he on duty?”
“Zelnikov? Hold on a minute. Let’s see, um, yes, Officer Packo. He started his shift two hours ago. He should be on Deck 9 – aft laundry room. Should I get him and bring him to you?”
“No. Don’t say a word to him. I need to talk to him and I don’t want him to have any signal ahead of time. Comprendes?”
Packo leapt up the staircase, three flights to Deck 9, and ran to the back of the ship, his handgun in his pocket. Nobody was supposed to have guns on cruise ships. That’s what passengers were told. No firearms. But the truth was that he and the captain both had guns. It was unspoken practice.
Laundry room. Mierda. Where the hell was it? Finally, he spotted the sign on the door. As he opened it, he could hear two men talking.
“Leopold Zelnikov, hands on your head. Drop to the floor!” His held his gun out, at his hip.
Disappointed, he saw two Asian men at work, but no Zelnikov in sight. Startled, the men jumped, dropping the loads of laundry in their hands, before they kneeled down on the floor.
“Zelnikov, where is he?” Packo demanded.
“Leo?” The smaller man lifted his head. “H-he just left here. Be back in 20 minutes. Said he lost something on the running track early this morning.”
Packo felt his fury rise. “If he comes back, don’t tell him I was here. Got that? If you do, I’ll find out and you’ll be facing the captain tonight."
They both nodded.
“And you never saw this weapon. Understand?”
