Times have changed. So should a woman’s literature. Gone are the days of the woman who stayed at home waiting for her knight in shining armor to appear and whisk her away to his castle and live happily ever after.
Today’s woman makes her own happily ever after, be it as a corporate big wig or a stay-at-home mom. She won’t wait for a man to find her. If she wants one, she doesn’t hesitate to go out and find him herself.
This woman’s romance novel should reflect that new self-confidence and independence. Heroines should be gutsy and able to take charge, and their heroes need to be able to accept that type of woman, be attracted to her as well as relinquish control to her. And the action should mirror real life, not some fantasy in the sky.
In my novels I attempt to bridge that gap between realism and romance. You’ll find fresh plots and characters that you could very easily run into on any street today, with problems that you yourself might have encountered. And even in my historical fiction stories, strong women face off against equally strong men in totally relatable plot lines.
